д It's usually about end-July for 3 days. Last year included the following events:- sean https://thriveglobal.com/?post_type=events&p=1491080&preview=true
Oxford/ Maidenhead/ Reading and thereabouts. You wouldn't know it though, as they all lurk near concrete walls on the Thames. Not to mention the marathon paddlers there. Mick done 2 training courses one crap so found level 5 mate who gave us a 'brush up'. Now need to do the assessment before my wife leaves me, though it is making her realize how much more sociable and more time convenient climbing is! https://thriveglobal.com/?post_type=events&p=1491020&preview=true
г г I always roll with my eyes open. I don't understand why everybody doesn't. Mike. https://thriveglobal.com/?post_type=events&p=1491069&preview=true
Also, it looks like there might only be 2 of us this weekend so we may stick to something easier? maybe the upper Conwy....don't really know yet. We'll head to Wales with passengers reading the guidebook I think! If all else fails (ie. we can't be arsed with the drive) we may end up at Newark or Sawley? https://thriveglobal.com/?post_type=events&p=1491062&preview=true
Lower Tavy at this level = a big bouncy 'float', some excellent surging waves, no real tree-dodging etc. just a few holes you wouldn't want to know. Yes, plenty to play on at this level and a longer and quieter alternative to the Loop at this level Some nice fast playwaves followed...not including the weir though. A fortnight ago a large tractor inner tube was being held in the centre and it was still there today. Nobody had any mishaps on the L-shaped fall (thankfully) since it didn't look inviting anyhwere today apart from hard left and then hard against the downstream wall. https://thriveglobal.com/?post_type=events&p=1491054&preview=true
Today, we had planned on an exploratory paddle on the Bovey. However, the Dart was dropping noticeably and not much rain had fallen. We figured that our tree-ditch-exploration mission was off*. So, we paddled the Upper Dart again. Having done that, we, erm, paddled the Upper Dart again. It really is THAT good at the moment...the sun was shining, the mushy big holes and waves of previous weekends have disappeared, the whole thing is like an Alpine run (if you ignore the tree-dodging aspect). 3) Last time I was there the river was 'just' big enough to play but my boat kept scraping on the concrete bed...my rails ended up like a frayed bit of cloth! Had hours with a hot knife getting it back! You've been warned Any chance of some notes on the Walkham, Dave? It'd be much appreciated...on Sunday morning I was trying to convince Chris to go off and explore this with me as a relaxing alternative to his pre-planned schedule of hero-boating on a flooded Dart (tho' thankfully the water level didn't prove to be as extreme as I thought it might be). Naturally I failed and ended up doing as I was told.
