Personally when I roll, I try and look downwards; it keeps your head under for longer and makes rolling easier. Not recommended though if the river's shallow! ;-) It seems that more and more people are only interested in moving water, and freestyle - and hence don't spend much time on flat water. The progression of Star Tests doesn't seem to apply. Many people take 3* so they can go to HPP or Teeside or wherever. Of all the 4* paddlers I know, none ever took 1* or 2*. Hi, Been on the River Ure this weekend just gone and would like to point out a possible hazard. Just after the infamous weir on the right hand side of island there is a tree down, covering most of the channel. Tried to remove as much as possible and you can seek round it, but be warned.
